Weehawken Guide

Spanning just 1.4 square miles, wonderful Weehawken is the perfect destination for those who crave proximity to New York City, but a slightly quieter way of life than found in nearby Hoboken and Jersey City. Here, nearly 15,000 residents enjoy stunning skyline views and outdoor space, while the soaring Palisades and thoroughfares carve the township into tight-knit, congenial neighborhoods. Housing options run the gamut from modest clapboard homes and brick apartment houses to glossy new waterfront condominiums and multimillion-dollar Colonial, Victorian and Tudor mansions in the King's Bluff Historic District.

Weehawken shoppers enjoy a new 32,000-square-foot Whole Foods store at The Shops at Lincoln Harbor complex or German-based grocery store Lidl. The challenging topography and lack of a large central business district make Weehawken a slightly car-reliant town, but commuters headed to Manhattan have multiple options. Several New Jersey Transit bus lines provide regular service to the Port Authority Bus Terminal and Hoboken PATH trains. Those looking to avoid Lincoln Tunnel traffic while basking in iconic city views can board a ferry for a quick ride between either Port Imperial or Lincoln Harbor to Manhattan's West 39th Street Terminal. The free Weehawken Township Shuttle Bus transports residents between the area's upper elevations to Port Imperial during weekday rush hour, and the convenient Hudson-Bergen Light Rail takes passengers from North Bergen to Bayonne seven days a week.

In Weehawken, the Hudson River is central to the rich quality of life. Along the bluffs, you'll find numerous seating areas and plazas surrounding historical monuments. The waterfront parks deliver a wealth of sports and recreation facilities, and walk/bike paths stretch along the townships coastline for Manhattan skyline photo ops that fully embrace the Weehawken way of life.
